degenerins

degenerins
Products of deg -1, mec -4 and mec -10 genes in Caenorhabditis elegans which turn out to have homology with amiloride-sensitive sodium channels. Mutations cause neuronal degeneration, probably by disrupting ion fluxes. A related protein, the product of unc -105, interacts with collagen and may be a stretch-activated channel.
